The Coffee With Conscience Concert Series was conceived
back in September of 2000, by the minister of the
Springfield Emanuel United
Methodist Church, the Reverend Jeff Markay. The Reverend was searching for a way
to involve members of his congregation in some form of service to the larger
community. A group of interested congregants met and brainstormed ways to meet
this goal. Those in attendance decided that a “Coffee House Style” concert
series was the answer.
Such a series could act as a fund-raiser—raising much
needed funds for worthy causes—while providing the participants with the
opportunity to serve the larger community, providing artists with a
venue to
display their talents, providing an audience with a cultural experience and
generally strengthening the local community by bringing a group of people
together for an evening of music in a comfortable setting.
This arts program is made possible in part by a HEART GRANT
(History, Education, Arts–Reaching Thousands) from the
Union County Board of
Chosen Freeholders.
The citizens of Union County, are the primary
beneficiaries. The concert series will benefit the county by bringing together
all types of people for an evening of great music supporting worthy causes. The
events are intended to provide the type of entertainment that is missing from so
many of our communities…Entertainment that fosters community and friendship,
structured around a good cause, presents a win-win situation for everyone
involved.
